Biography Marina Bien-Aimé is a classical coloratura soprano based in Brooklyn, New York. She bases her artistry in historical and sociopolitical context. She currently studies with Cyndia Sieden, and attended Peabody Conservatory for both her Bachelor and Master of Music studying under Ah Young Hong. She also received her Bachelor of Arts in Art History at Johns Hopkins, further informing her performances through interdisciplinary connection.

Marina first was introduced to classical music through piano, and later participated in choirs throughout middle and high school. Her first operatic debut was at the age of thirteen, in Judith Berkson’s The Vienna Rite. Under the tutelage of Dr. Sherry Overholt, she further explored classical singing and became enamored with the opera world. She was the first person from her high school to attend conservatory. At Peabody, she was involved in many community outreach projects, chamber ensembles, and operas including Jules Massenet’s Cendrillon and Ricky Ian Gordon’s Orpheus and Euridice. She has won several awards during her time at Peabody, including the award for excellence in the performance of a work by an African-American composer in Peabody’s annual art song competition, and the Azalia H. Thomas Award for the highest GPA in music theory upon graduation.

Marina has worked with many industry giants, including Marin Alsop, Christoph Eschenbach, Elizabeth Futral, and Arlene Shrut. She has extensive vocal ensemble experience, and currently sings with the Oratorio Society of New York. She also has experience as a cantor and section leader at several churches in New York and Baltimore.
